YRCI is thoroughly committed to community outreach programs. Whether it’s fundraising for the Capital Area Food Bank or tutoring school children; giving back to the community is part of our corporate culture.
Partnerships
Capital Area Food Bank
YRCI has been a robust partner with the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) since 2004.
On June 30, 2008, YRCI partnered with the Capital Area Food Bank to run the 1st Annual Score Birdies to End Hunger Charity Golf Tournament. The tournament was a great success, with more than 100 golfers competing in the event. YRCI managed to raise almost $33,000 for the Capital Area Food Bank. That’s enough to feed approximately forty families of four an average of three meals a day for more than six months! The golf tournament, auctions, and games turned out not only to be great fun, but also raised money for an important cause close to all of our hearts. Pictures of the event are available online at http://www.yrci.com/golf2008/pictures.aspx.
During the CAFB’s 2004 & 2005 ‘Stuff A Truck’ Food Drives, YRCI employees manned sites in Northern Virginia, assisting CAFB staff in collecting and sorting over 100, 000 pounds of food.
"YRCI is delighted to join forces with the region's largest and most comprehensive food source for individuals and families throughout Northern Virginia and Metro DC," said John Jaeger, president of YRCI. "We're proud that our corporate commitment to community outreach can help eradicate hunger within the CAFB service area."
At the 2004 Stuff A Truck event, YRCI presented CAFB officials with a $40,000 cash donation, which at the time was the largest single cash donation ever received by the CAFB. The following year, Jaeger increased the company’s financial commitment by 20%, and presented a check for $48,000. In 2006, YRCI donated $60,000 to the CAFB.
"YRCI has donated a tremendous gift again this year and we are so grateful for their commitment to helping us end hunger," said Lynn Brantley, President and CEO of the Capital Area Food Bank. "Their support will make a significant difference in the lives of hundreds of families throughout the National Capital Region."
Fairfax County School Business Partner
YRCI is a business partner with Providence Elementary School as part of the Partners in Education program sponsored by Fairfax County Public Schools ‘Office of Business and Industry Relations’ (OBIR). The OBIR develops, promotes, and coordinates collaborative efforts between the business community and the schools to create and foster relationships beneficial to the school division and total community.
YRCI has been a partner with Providence since 2005. The heart of YRCI’s partnership support is the team of employees who provide weekly mentoring to their assigned students. In addition, YRCI employees volunteer their time to help out with other school activities. During the 2006/7 school year YRCI employees helped to run the annual “Fun Fair” fund-raiser, and read to students as part of the “Read across America” Day in honor of Dr Seuss’ Birthday.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC
YRCI has been a Platinum Sponsor for both the 21st & 22nd Annual Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, DC Pro-Am Golf Tournaments. The 22nd Annual event raised $109,946 which will be used to maintain existing homes where families can stay while children undergo treatment at local hospitals.
Hurricane Katrina Victim Fund
In September 2005, YRCI employees gave $17,939 to Katrina relief efforts. John Jaeger, president and chief executive officer of the company, and his wife, Dianne Jaeger, promised to match donations given by employees. The employees gave $7,939 in a little over a week, according to Jaeger.
“I didn't know what to expect,” John Jaeger said. “I'm very pleased with the number.” The Jaegers, gave $10,000, more than matching the donations. Each employee chose to donate to a specific organization. The Jaeger's donation went to the American Red Cross.
Red Cross Blood Drives
Teaming with the American Red Cross, YRCI annually hosts two Blood Drives at their corporate headquarters in Fairfax. Employees are encouraged to participate and provide time at company expense to donate the much needed blood.
